The NBA Draft occurred on Thursday night at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. A lot of people’s dreams came true and there NBA careers’s are only beginning and teams who drafted those respective players hope they make an impact in some way, shape, or form.
With the NBA Draft now over, the main focus will be on free agency which begins on Sunday June 30th and also the potential trades that might happen this offseason. If each free agent were to return to their respective teams but that is very unlikely to happen, what could the standings look like for next season at the moment?
The four teams in the eastern conference that are sure fire bets to make it to the playoffs next season are the Toronto Raptors, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Indiana Pacers.
There are two teams that should make the playoffs and they are the Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets.
The two teams that I think that will fill out the final two playoff spots in the east will be the Miami Heat and the Atlanta Hawks.
The Orlando Magic, the Detroit Pistons, the New York Knicks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Chicago Bulls, the Washington Wizards, and the Charlotte Hornets.
Playoff seeding: 8. Atlanta Hawks 7. Miami Heat 6. Boston Celtics 5. Brooklyn Nets 4. Indiana Pacers 3. Philadelphia 76ers 2. Toronto Raptors 1. Milwaukee Bucks.
The western conference is going to be loaded once again this upcoming season. There is always a balance shift year after year.
I think the eight teams that will make it to the postseason next year in the western conference are the Golden State Warriors, the Denver Nuggets, the Portland Trail Blazers, the Houston Rockets, the Utah Jazz, the Los Angeles Lakers, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Los Angeles Clippers.
I think the New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings will both be teams on the rise this season. The Memphis Grizzles will struggle this season, but they are developing a nice core for the future.
The team that I think that will take a step back next season is the Oklahoma City Thunder. They have not improved the roster at all and Oklahoma City has gotten bounced in the playoffs in the first-round for the past three seasons. This could be the year that tension really builds there considering the fact that teams in their conference have gotten substantially better than them.
The Dallas Mavericks, the Phoenix Suns, and the Minnesota Timberwolves will have no chance to make it to the playoffs next season.
Playoff seeding in west: 8. Houston Rockets, 7. Portland Trail Blazers, 6. Los Angeles Clippers, 5. Golden State Warriors, 4. Utah Jazz, 3. San Antonio Spurs, 2. Los Angeles Lakers, and 1. Denver Nuggets.
