When wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was traded to the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday night from the New York Giants, thousands of Giants fans took to social media to voice their outrage. Beckham Jr. is one of the best receivers in the game. He signed a contract extension last summer.
General Manager David Gettleman told the media earlier in 2019 that they didn’t sign him to trade him. Well, he basically lied to the entire fan base. If they didn’t want him back, why did New York even give him a contract extension in the first place?
The New York Giants basically scapegoated him for Eli Manning’s failures. If it wasn’t for Beckham Jr., Eli Manning wouldn’t even be in the NFL right now. Luckily, he only has one year left on his contract. New York must draft a quarterback, but they will find some excuse not to.
The love affair the Giants have with Manning is utterly ridiculous. That is the reason why this franchise is being held back. They have been one of the worst teams in football over the past five seasons. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them have the worst record in 2019.
This team will have 12 picks in the NFL Draft. David Gettleman better nail these picks or he will be questioned even further.
Speaking of being questioned, why did he let safety Landon Collins walk in free agency? Collins went on to sign with the Washington Redskins.
Gettleman was the former Carolina Panthers general manager when former Pro Bowlers Steve Smith Sr., Josh Norman, and DeAngelo Williams tried to warn people about him. They were right.
What plan do the New York Giants have moving forward?
It seems to be a confusing one because they signed wide receiver Golden Tate. I like him as a receiver, but it is just disrespectful for Odell Beckham Jr.
It is also quite possible that Gettleman and Pat Shurmur will be fired after this season if New York wins something like three games.
One of the only reasons why the Giants will be watchable this season is because of running back Saquon Barkley. They will also continue to build the team around him.
Another key player for the Giants include Evan Engram, who is a really good tight end. However, Sterling Shepard is not a number one receiver even though at the moment it seems like that is where he is listed on the Giants depth chart.
The biggest problem with this franchise right now is co-owner John Mara. He is one of the reasons why New York has become one of the worst franchises in football. They have become even worse than the Jets when it comes to dysfunction.
Mara has allowed this mess to happen. This dysfunction would not have happened if his father, Wellington Mara was still alive. Some fans think that John Mara should sell the team. If this franchise doesn’t figure out what direction they are heading in, the New York Giants will be a laughing stock in the NFL for years to come.
